"How did the documentary which you analysed in P1 affect your planned documentary?"
- The documentary that I analysed in P1, North of the Sun, shares the same observational mode. This is because the documentary is shot in a very cinematic way, watching and observing what is happening using a range of shot techniques. In regards to my documentary, I will be filming the footage in a cinematic way, which I was inspired by the shot techniques they used. However, this documentary was participatory as the filmmaker gets involved, I will not do this for my documentary because it won't fit the style I'm going for. The style in North of the Sun is inspirational and educational, which is the same aim I am going for. I say this because my aim for the documentary is to show that snooker is a great hidden sport, that not many people play, teaching the audience what it's like to play in a club. The editing in North of the Sun is slow, calm and laid back. I will follow this exact format as snooker is a relaxing sport. The footage style in the documentary uses wide, and often POV shots. They use a time lapse to show the shift in weather, and I can do this for my documentary, by setting up the camera when the snooker club is busy and doing a time lapse. The theme in North of the Sun is to show exploration and discovering yourself as an individual. This could relate to my documentary as when playing snooker, you learn a lot about yourself depending on your skill and knowledge of the game. The issues in North of the Sun are different due to the completely different story, as the issue in the documentary was food, water and the weather. The target audience for North of the Sun is 25 year old's who enjoy sport activities which is motivating to them. This is similar to snooker with the motivational aspect, however, the target age for snooker is much older. Older people would likely not be as interested in the North of the Sun documentary, because of its young style.
